The project is taking shape! The rain garden has been formed, the seat-walls are up, the plaza concrete base is poured and we even have a small section of sidewalk installed (with the exception of the scoring) at the west end. We are two months away from the estimated completion date and the project remains on schedule.
Panorama of the Plaza
The rest of the sidewalks at the east and west ends of the street (where the curbs have been poured) will be installed over the next two weeks. The west end will be completed first followed by the east end by City Hall and the Library. The next phase will include the curbs and sidewalks in the middle section of the street. Because this section of the street will be entirely concrete the curb and first panel of the street will be poured simultaneously.
Second Street will be closed to thru traffic at the plaza area in front of the firehouse starting Monday April 14th. The road closure area will expand as the concrete street is constructed out from the plaza area to the east and west. We will provide more detail of each phase of the road closure expansion prior to implementation. We have switched to an early strength concrete for the street section to decrease the amount of time for the drying and curing process in order to minimize disruptions.
