Second Street Construction Update #5

Hello Langley,

As we finish up the 8th week of construction we are close to finishing the underground utility work.  The crew is currently installing the stormwater system on Cascade Avenue.  The relocation of the overhead utilities is complete and the majority of the underground utility work is complete.  The new water line has been installed and the services have been transferred to the new main.  Starting next week the contractor will begin construction of the concrete seat-walls, the rain garden, art sculpture foundations and landscaping planter areas.  Work will also begin on the curb and sidewalk next week, but we will provide a more detailed schedule of the sidewalk construction as it unfolds.

Despite the construction activities parking is still readily available in the downtown core so please spread the word.  Access to the Star Store parking lot will be limited to the alley from Anthes or First Street during certain times of construction.  Access to the Star Store from Second Street will be available at all times Friday through Sunday.

Langley Main Street is sponsoring a fun event on Saturday March 22th from 11am to 2pm called “Monsters on Machines” (from a children’s book of the same name by local author Deb Lund) that will feature a book reading and signing, photos with the construction equipment, face painting, food and more.  Please click on the link below for an event flyer.

The on-site construction inspector, Rory Woody, has a new phone number that is different from the one on the Second Street informational post card (the old number is a t-mobile phone that doesn’t get service in Langley).  You may contact him at  253.278.3169.

The city very much appreciates the support from the community during construction and do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.  We will do our best to address any issues in a timely fashion.

For questions, comments or concerns regarding the project please contact Jeff Arango – Director of Community Planning at 360.221.4246 x26 (office), 206.456.6208 (mobile), or fill out the form below.
