As March begins we are entering into our seventh week of construction on the project. The transfer of water services to the new water main was completed last week. We originally thought we could isolate portions of the water main so that only a limited number of connections would be disrupted at a time and for a shorter duration. However, that turned out to not be possible and forced us to shut the entire main down last week. We apologize for this unforseen impact to the businesses and property owners along Second Street and appreciate everyone’s understanding.
The excavation of the south side of the street is beginning today, Monday March 3rd. Puget Sound Energy (PSE) is installing the new overhead power poles and will be making the conversion to the new lines this week. Each individual business and property owner will be notified regarding specific times and lengths of outages. PSE is working to accommodate requests for night-time outages to minimize business disruptions. Work on the Cascade Avenue stormwater improvements will begin next Monday March 10th followed by construction of the rain garden and landscaping areas, seat-walls, bollards and art sculpture foundations.
