The Second Street Project is on track for construction to start in January of 2014. The project involves a full reconstruction of the street based on a new design that incorporates an expansion and enhancement of pedestrian space, pedestrian seating, landscaping, a rain garden, locations for public art, a central plaza space, improved crosswalks, a transit stop and decorative pavement textures. For more information on the design of the project please refer to earlier designlangley.org posts on the project by clicking on the second street project link on the right side of the the page under “categories.”
The design and engineering plans have been approved by WSDOT and the bid advertisement is scheduled for October 10, 2013. Once we get the contractor on board we will schedule a meeting\ with the business and property owners along the corridor to review the construction schedule and phasing. The city is committed to minimizing the impacts from construction as much as possible and is one of the primary reasons the project will be constructed after the holiday season to be completed before the 2014 tourist season.
The designlangley.org site will have the latest project information as it becomes available and the city is in the process of developing a contact list for all business and property owners along the corridor. Each property owner along Second Street has been sent a mailing recently with information on the project. Stay tuned…..
