The Shoreline Advisory Committee will hold a public meeting on February 8th at 630pm in city hall to review the committee’s work on updating the Shoreline Master Program, which provides planning and regulations for the shoreline and the first 200′ of upland.

The design review board will meet next Thursday at 6:30pm (1/19/12) to provide early design guidance for the redevelopment proposal at 203 Wharf Street, otherwise known as Drake’s Landing. The current proposal is for a four story mixed-use building with retail/commercial on the first and second floors with residences on the third and fourth floors. The plan includes a landing for a funicular (elevated railway) to connect Cascade Avenue with the Marina. The second floor adjacent to the funicular will include a public corridor and viewing area with an elevator and stairs to the first floor. The city is pursuing funding opportunities for the funicular, which will be discussed at the city council meeting on Tuesday January 17, 2012. Hugh Shipman, a well-known coastal geologist with the Department of Ecology will be giving a talk on beaches and bluffs in the Puget Sound next Monday at 10am in City Hall. The talk is timely as the city is in the process of updating the Shoreline Master Program, which guides planning and development within 200′ of the shoreline. If you are available and interested in shoreline planning issues please consider attending.
